Rap world, prepare yourselves for a new sound this summer.
In a statement on AllHipHop.com Thursday, hip-hop artist and producer, T-Pain, said he is done using auto-tune for good, which could end the extended run that it has had on the hip-hop and R&B world for the last several years.
"I vow right here, right now, to never use Auto-Tune again," T-Pain told AllHipHop.com in his exclusive statement.
Auto-tune technology was first created by Antares Audio Technologies and broke into the pop scene in 1998 when Cher released her hit single “Believe”. Although not the founder, T-Pain popularized it in his music which later was used by such artists as Kanye West, Lil Wayne and Snoop Dogg.
After auto-tune became so popular in the music world, T-Pain officially partnered with Antares Technology to make the “I am T-Pain” app in September 2009 that allowed users to auto-tune their own voices by using their smart phones.
Although he is giving up auto-tune, it appears that it is not the only trick he has up his sleeve.
The Grammy award-winning producer and platinum selling rapper has teamed up with Izotope, an audio technology company, which will become the exclusive producer of his new technology, known as the T-Pain effect.
"I'm onto something that I think is bigger and better called 'The T-Pain Effect,’” he said.
Izotope and T-Pain will work together directly to help advance his new sound, while using Izotopes proprietary vocal processing technologies.
Izotope and T-Pain will display their upcoming new technology this year on June 7th at the Nox Booth during The Electronic Entertainment Expo, commonly known as E3. E3 is an annual trade show for the computer and gaming industry. It is used by many developers to introduce their upcoming games and game-related hardware.
Out with the old, in with the new, T-Pain appears to be hanging around the rap scene for a while longer.
